After dodging the bullet for ten plus years, I tore my ACL at university soccer practice.
How did it feel? Like my knee exploded; and then afterwards like my lower leg was dangling from the knee on down. The worst part? No, not surgery . . . waiting for surgery! After 'waiting' for the swelling to go down and trying to regain my range of motion, the surgeon later told me the reason I couldn't get my knee straight was that the torn ligament was wadded up in my joint, blocking the movement--yay. At least the meniscus wasn't as badly torn as he had originally thought. The best part--visits from those I love. Check out this cool GIANT coloring book that my Aunt Mindy brought me. Thanks everyone for your concern, texts, phone calls and visits (and treats). I really appreciate it. Yes, I know that the rehab will be
long and difficult but I am sick of lying in this bed . . . so BRING IT ON!

Grandparent Moments
Karli and her kids came to stay with us for a week and we had a great time. One memorable moment was when we took them ice skating and after being on the ice for about 15 seconds, Payton decided it was time to do figure skating tricks. With Gram holding one of his hands and Hannah on the other, Payton spontaneously skated on one foot, made a jump that resembled a daffy, and did 'fancy footwork'. It was hilarious.
Another memorable moment involved Brooklyn being awake in my bed when I went to retire. She had snuck out of her bed and announced that we could 'snuggle'. As I was getting ready for bed, her nonstop chatter made me smile.
"You can't wear your boots to bed Gram. Don't forget to go potty, and then stand on that (the scale) to see how old you are. Did you brush and floss?"
"Not yet", I replied. Little did I know that this was about the only time I would get to speak.
"Do you want to get cavities in your teeth, Gram? You need to brush and floss if you don't want to get a cavity and a shot in your mouth. Now we need to say a prayer. I'll say it." She then said the most sweet and humble prayer that I have heard since my children were small.
"I don't pray for unicorns anymore. I like your soft jammies, Gram. I have princess underwear, what kind of underwear do you have?"
Then Johnny walked into the room and looked a little hesitant about going to bed. Brooklyn did not miss a beat.
"Hi Pop! We are having a family snuggle. I am by Gram and there is room for you right here," as she patted the mattress next to her. "Are those your jammies Pop? You can join in our family snuggle. We need to go to sleep now. We can't wake up Payton. We will get in trouble if we wake up Payton. Did you say your prayer? I love Jesus. Do you love Jesus? He is our Savior."
She then sang us a bedtime song or two. She chose 'I am a Child of God' and 'We Thank Thee O God for a Prophet'.
Well, you get the picture. My heart was melting and I was giggling at the same time. The good news is that we didn't wake up Payton and we didn't get in trouble.

Christmas Miracle
I was in heaven this Christmas. All of my children and grandchildren were staying at our house in Sandy. With the Bells and Stukers living out of state, I thought this was an amazing feat. I appreciate their efforts so much! It can't be easy to bring your whole Christmas in the car/plane to someone else's house. Everyone got along surprisingly well and although it was a very active environment--I loved it. . . blissful chaos.

Triath-a-WHAT?
For Thanksgiving this year, we decided we wanted to try something new so we planned our own Mini-Triathlon. We mapped out a path in St. George and on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving we swam 600 meters, ran 3.1 miles, and biked 12 miles. Everyone finished even though some of our bicycles were stuck in one gear! Hannah was first in the swim, and Jesse finished first overall. (He had one of the good bikes) Even though the Bells couldn't be there, it was a great unity activity--we are considering a repeat sometime!
